Escape Artist

The book launch for Escape, an Escapeanthology, published by a new group, Peregrin Publishing. took place at the Maritime Heritage Centre in Campbell River, on Nov. 10. We had a great crowd. There was music, a slide presentation of the printing process and readings.

I’m one of 28 writers who’ve contributed to this anthology. My story, No Time For Tears, is actually a chapter from my work in progress, my grandmother’s story. My novel or memoir ( I haven’t decided yet) starts with my mother’s birth in Czarist Russia in 1915, and ends in 1929, when she came to Canada with what was left of her family. The excerpt in Escape is about the time my grandmother and her children had to flee the invading Germans.

Along with the book launch, writers, who also happen to be artists, have hung their works  in the Tidemark Theatre lobby in Campbell River. The following art pieces are the ones I painted for the exhibit.

Just caught this: hope the ‘mingling’ went well and your work was well received.

I had a story in an American anthology a while ago, couldn’t travel to the launch party but I’m sure it was good too.

Thank you Diana. My brain was due for art therapy. I scrolled down to “a New Dawn” and liked it. Then I scrolled down to ” Following Monet” and before I scrolled to the title I thought “nice clean Monet.”

I think Monet would be happy with your painting. If not too bad for him. I like it.

Congratulations on your opening. I wish I were there to see it live. I appreciate you posting the therapeutic art.

Thanks, Jay. Glad you liked the paintings. They are so different than what I’ve done before. I’m going to keep building on this, as I found a lot of joy using bright colours and just seeing where they all wanted to go.

Clearly, I’m late for the march (it’s only the 3rd of December) … and just about everything else. Your presentation at the launch was excellent. I really enjoyed it. As for the art — definitely a Monet.
