Though winter is mild on Vancouver Island, where I live, I was surprised to see the Hellebore in bloom. What a beautiful flower! It has some black spots this January so it&#8217;s not perfect. But then again, neither am I.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Finishing Touches <\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I&#8217;m late to wishing you well because I&#8217;ve had my head down, going over my copy editor&#8217;s notes for my next novel, <strong><em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Sunflowers Under Fire (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/dianastevan.author\/photos\/a.572662779505885\/1856825527756264\/?type=1&amp;theater\" target=\"_blank\">Sunflowers Under Fire<\/a><\/em><\/strong>. Their notes are finally destined for the shredder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The pile on the right is the copy edit manuscript I got back from editor <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Rachel Small (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"http:\/\/rachelsmallediting.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Rachel Small<\/a>. She was so great to work with and came on the recommendation of superb fantasy\/thriller author <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"J.P. McLean (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/jpmcleanauthor.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">J.P. McLean<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Over the Holidays<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Getting back to writing follows a wonderful Christmas and New Year&#8217;s celebration with both daughters and their families. It rained almost every day of our younger daughter and family&#8217;s visit, but on one of the two days of sunshine, we took our granddaughters skiing on Mount Washington. Robert and I sat in the lodge; he read and I worked on my copy edits. We were avid skiers back when our knees were better. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Off to San Miguel de Allende<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We&#8217;re also off to San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico for six weeks. I also hope to hear <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Susan Orlean (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/entertainment\/books\/everybody-who-loves-books-should-check-out-the-library-book\/2018\/10\/09\/3e771e28-cafe-11e8-a3e6-44daa3d35ede_story.html?noredirect=on&amp;utm_term=.d4c1db4a99f1\" target=\"_blank\">Susan Orlean<\/a> read from <em>The Library Book<\/em>, one of the notable books of 2018. Her story revolves around the burning of the L.A. library in 1986.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The conference also has an Open Mic time, during which authors can read from their work. I plan to read from my novels, <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" label=\"A Cry From The Deep (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Cry-Deep-Diana-Stevan\/dp\/1497536634\" target=\"_blank\">A Cry From The Deep<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/s?k=the+rubber+fence+diana+stevan&amp;i=digital-text&amp;ref=nb_sb_noss_1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" label=\"The Rubber Fence (opens in a new tab)\">The Rubber Fence<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Back in 1996<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Robert and I were in San Miguel in 1996. Unfortunately at the time, I became quite ill during our stay there. I suffered from a bad bout of bronchitis&#8211;lasted a good month&#8211;and then came down with Hep A, so we had to come home early. Luce was a voluptuous indigenous Mexican, who posed for both Rob&#8217;s classes in sculpture and mine in painting. I was so impressed with her composure. On her breaks, she walked with ease in her glorious nakedness to look at our work. She was so comfortable in her skin that I wanted to bottle her confidence and bring it back to North America for all the women who obsess about their bodies, thinking they are less than perfect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Besides writing, I hope to take some art classes again in SMA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">More Blogging<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This year, I plan to blog more often. I&#8217;m also excited to get going on my other writing projects.
