\"Indie<\/a>The first Indie Author Day<\/a><\/strong> takes place on Sat. Oct. 8th<\/strong> in libraries all over North America.<\/p>\n

Key members of the publishing industry are supporting indie authors and their growing body of work. Publishing associations like The Library Journal<\/strong> and Publisher Weekly’s Book Life<\/strong> are a few who have helped to organize this event.<\/p>\n

Courtenay Library Book Fair<\/h3>\n

I’ll be at the library in Courtenay, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, at 10:00 am to 12:45 pm, Saturday, Oct. 8th for their book fair. I’ll have my novels, A Cry From The Deep<\/strong><\/em> and The Rubber Fence<\/strong><\/em>, available for sale and signing.<\/p>\n

Campbell River Library<\/h3>\n

In the afternoon of Oct. 8th, at 2 p.m. I’ll be at the Campbell River Library in Campbell River, Vancouver Island, I’ll be delivering a presentation on\u00a0SELF-PUBLISHING 101<\/strong>. I hope to share the pros and cons of self-publishing with writers who want to get their work out. I’ll have my novels there as well for a special indie author day price.<\/p>\n

Self-Publishing Has Exploded<\/h3>\n

The old way was to get your books published traditionally. That still exists, but the competition is fierce and you have to jump through a lot of hoops. It also means waiting and waiting before your book is available to the public. After getting an agent (which can take upwards of a year or more), it can take anywhere from 18 months to 5 years to see your book in a bookstore or online.<\/p>\n

It’s no surprise then, that in the last seven years, self-publishing has exploded. It\u2019s easier than ever to get your book published.<\/p>\n

Notable Self-Published Authors<\/h3>\n

In researching for my presentation, I was surprised to learn that many notable authors self-published. Here are a few:\u00a0\u00a0Sense and Sensibility<\/em> by Jane Austen<\/strong>, Leaves of Grass<\/em> by Walt Whitman<\/strong>, Remembrance of Things Past<\/em>\u00a0by Marcel Proust<\/strong>, Ulysses<\/em> by\u00a0James Joyce<\/strong>, The Adventures of Peter Rabbit<\/em> by Beatrix Potter<\/strong>,\u00a0and more recently, Fifty Shades of Grey<\/em> by E L James<\/strong>, and The Wool Trilogy<\/em> by Hugh Howie<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

So come on out and support your local indie author.<\/p>\n
