Because I\u2019ve been blessed with having one who did not disappoint, I can shed some light on the subject.<\/p>\n<h3>A Few Key Points<\/h3>\n<p>He\u2019s a man you can count on to pay attention to your smallest concern.<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s a man who\u2019ll inspire you and leave you with warm fuzzy memories of your times together.<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s a man who\u2019s not afraid to show his vulnerable side, leaving you with the knowledge that it\u2019s not weakness to show that sometimes life is just too tough and it\u2019s okay to cry and not know the answer to some of life\u2019s big questions.<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s also a provider, one who cares about his wife and family, their comfort, their well being.<\/p>\n<h3>Memories<\/h3>\n<p>When I think of my father, Peter Klewchuk, who died on September 11<sup>th<\/sup>, 1985, I still tear up even though it\u2019s now over 30 years ago since he passed away. We used to dive for stones in Lake Manitoba, each of us taking turns throwing stones in the water for the other to find. What I most loved about my dad was that he took \u00a0time to revel in the majesty of nature. He pointed out the birds and the new growth on the balsam tree at the cottage we had later on the shores of Lake Winnipeg.<\/p>\n<h3>Respect For Others<\/h3>\n<p>He also taught me respect for others. I never heard him raise his voice, though I know he had many moments of frustration. He grew up with parents who fought openly and he often had to intervene. He didn\u2019t want to repeat that pattern of ugly conflict so when he got upset about anything, he chose to remove himself by going to the garage to tinker with his car. Later, I would hear him and my mother talk through whatever bothered him.<\/p>\n<h3>Honor Thy Father and Thy Mother<\/h3>\n<p>And though his father had treated him badly during his childhood and early adult life, he never complained about it. He wasn\u2019t a man who dwelled on any misfortune that had fallen upon him and there were many. He still treated his father well in his senior years, believing in the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ten_Commandments\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">commandment<\/a><\/strong>, Honor Thy Father and Thy Mother.<\/p>\n<p>Dad\u2019s gone, but I\u2019m so lucky to have such wonderful memories. My mother was a wonderful woman, too, but it was Dad who gave me time and attention and understood what I needed. And for that, I\u2019ll be eternally grateful.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Happy Father\u2019s Day<\/strong> to all the wonderful dads out there.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What makes for a good father?
