As a recent graduate with a Master of Social Work, she had trained as a family therapist. At the time, the film &#8220;One Flew Over the Cuckoo&#8217;s Nest&#8221; based on\u00a0 the book by Ken Kesey had come out in the theatres. She was shocked to find electro-convulsive therapy still in practice on the hospital ward, where she began work. Some of those experiences haunted her for years.
